According to Grand Rapids Business Journal, owners Josie Garcia and Tedd Smith first started Cocoon in 2017 as pop-up art space in Phoenix, Arizona.

They moved to West Michigan with their two daughters in 2021, in part to be close to their aging parents.

Garcia tells GRBJ, the pair wanted to “grow personally and professionally in a more close-knit community and in a place where we might make a difference to ourselves and others. We wanted to live more seasonally and be close to aging parents. Family is super important to us."

Cocoon Art Space will hold galleries throughout the year and plan to announce art camps for kids and workshops for the public soon.
