Help Take Care of MI’s Natural Resources – Volunteer with the DNR
Michigan is a state rich in natural resources. From the Great Lakes, to rivers, sand dunes, forests, fish and wildlife, the Mitten State has a lot going for it!
If you've been looking for ways to help preserve Michigan's natural resources, the DNR is looking for volunteers.
Coming up in May, several state parks in southern Michigan are hosting volunteer stewardship workdays. Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive plants that threaten high-quality ecosystems in the parks. Pre-registration is required. Workdays will be Saturdays and Sundays in May, plus some additional days. Specific dates and times can be found on the DNR volunteer events calendar.
Volunteers are needed to help protect the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery in Mattawan, and improve this unique habitat for various native species. Wolf Lake stewardship workdays are scheduled every other Wednesday, May through August.
You can also help in Cheboygan County standing guard as mature lake sturgeon head upstream to their spawning site, to protect the fish from being illegally harvested. You can sign up to help at the Sturgeon for Tomorrow’s Guarding Program webpage.
The DNR is always looking for residents to help with monitoring Michigan wildlife. Your observations provide valuable data on distribution, relative abundance, and trends for Michigan's reptile and amphibian species. You can find out more on how to share your observations with the DNR here.
