What a talented women's basketball team Grand Valley State University had, too. They finished the season 31 and 1. They also repeated with a GLIAC Tournament Championship and Midwest Regional title. Quite a feat.
And, speaking of repeats, Lakers' Head Coach Mike Williams won his second consecutive Division II National Coach of the Year Award.
Let's not forget the special play of the players.
Senior Paige VanStee led the team in scoring with 25 points, followed by senior Nicole Kamin and sophomore MacKenzie Bisballe with 18 points each. And the Lakers defense dominated with eight steals and 13 blocks.
But wait, that's not all. VanStee and Bisballe both earned All-American honors this season as well.
Let's not forget that the lady Lakers have another national basketball championship. That win was in 2006.
Grand Valley State University's news website wrote just how dominating and amazing this group of players has been.
"The graduating class of Paige VanStee, Nicole Kamin, Molly Anderson, Lexi Plitzuweit, and Avery Zeinstra rewrote the record books in their time in Allendale. Over their time with the Lakers, they were apart of five GLIAC regular season titles, four GLIAC Tournament titles, three Midwest Regional crowns, three trips to the Final Four, and two National Championships."
Congratulations to the Lady Laker's National Basketball Championship! A job well done!
