Grandvilla Restaurants (which includes The Villa and The Dungeon) shared news of the permanent closure to Facebook on Thursday, confirming rumors that have been circulating online in recent weeks.

Owners say the pandemic took a toll on the restaurants. They thank guests for patronizing the Chicago Drive business, saying, "It's been a true blessing to be such a staple in the Grandville area and we will always and forever cherish each and every one of you."

The restaurant had previously shared they'd been experiencing staffing issues and recently  had reduced their hours.

While an exact closure date was not shared in the post, Grandvilla Restaurants asks anyone with gift cards to use them by next week.

Posts in Grand Rapids area online groups have indicated Grandvilla's last day in business will be June 30, 2022.

The Villa and The Dungeon serve Mexican dishes, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers.

Many guests are sharing their sadness at the restaurants closing and say they'll miss the food, in particular the burritos and the chips and cheese.

Shannon says,

Thank you for the many years of outstanding chips and cheese! 30 yrs ago, connected with my now husband, Mona was our server! You will be missed

Lori posts,

So sad to see you go! You by far have the best wet burritos and chips and cheese I have ever had. Your cooks are amazing along with the rest of your staff. I hope one of your staff buys the restaurant and you let them sell those two things!

Justin writes,

Your wet burrito is second to none and your salsa competes with the best. I am very sorry that our community is losing you. Thank you for the many memories and excellent food, but more importantly for your support of our great city for many, many years!

According to MLive, the original Grand Villa restaurant first opened its doors in 1934.
