The Grand Rapids Drive are wrapping up their partnership with the Detroit Pistons this offseason and a new NBA partnership is rumored to begin when the 2021-22 season begins.

According to an article from the Denver Post, the Denver Nuggets are getting ready to announce the Grand Rapids Drive as their first NBA G League affiliate.  The Nuggets have never officially had an NBA G League affiliate but has been trying for years to finally get one.

The article from the Denver Post went on to say "After Denver’s roughly $9 million buy-in, sources said, the Nuggets would be solely responsible for the basketball side of operations."

The Grand Rapids Drive opted out of the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 concerns, but will be returning to play in the 2021-22 season.  Grand Rapids Drive Chief Operating Officer Rob Johnson has made no comment confirming or denying the possible affiliation with the Denver Nuggets for the upcoming season.

The possible affiliation would not only help the Denver Nuggets in developing talent, but will also benefit the Grand Rapids Drive by giving fans the opportunity to occasionally  see see some Nuggets players in GR.  If the Nuggets have an injured player who is looking to rehab a little bit in a lower league, you might see some really talented NBA players playing at the Delta Plex.

You can read more about the possible affiliation on the Denver Post's website.
