Grand Rapids Chosen to Host 2015 National Triathlon Event
USA Triathlon announced the Grand Rapids Triathlon, presented by Huntington Bank and Amway Corporation, has been chosen to host the 2015 Clydesdale and Athena National Championships for the Sprint, Olympic and Long-Course distances. This comes after an in depth study by the USAT of thousands of top triathlons across the country.
2014 was the first time Grand Rapids was chosen to host a USAT National Championship, the Long Course Nationals. Due to an outstanding review by the athletes and USAT organizers that participated in this event, the USAT has chosen to once again come to Grand Rapids to crown top athletes.
To qualify to compete in the Clydesdale and Athena division, male athletes must be a minimum weight of 220 lbs and females a minimum of 165 lbs.
What does this mean for Grand Rapids? Triathletes looking to reign as national champions in the Clydesdale and Athena division, must come to Grand Rapids, MI. There are no qualifications needed to compete in Nationals.
"We are excited that USA Triathlon has selected the Grand Rapids Triathlon as one of their national championship events in 2015, let alone for the second year in a row. The Tris4Health group that puts on both this event and the Michigan Titanium, consistently achieve excellent standards in their events based on participant response and growth in participants each year. The participants who will visit our community for the first time will be amazed by the efforts put forth by the sponsors, volunteers and race directors to make it one of the best national events they will experience," says Mike Guswiler, President of the West Michigan Sports Commission.
USAT Clydesdale and Athena Nationals to be contested at the Grand Rapids Triathlon will feature a 500m, 1500m or 1.2-mile swim, 10k, 20k or 56-mile bike and 5k, 10k or 13.1-mile run on June 14, 2015 in the Ada/Cascade Townships.
