Our news partner, WZZM13 reported this morning that Richard (Rich) DeVos, the co-founder of Amway has died at the age of 92.

DeVos and his lifetime business partner Jay Van Andel started Amway in their basements back in 1959, and it has grown into a company with annual sales now exceeding $8 billion.

Rick DeVos, Rich DeVos's grandson issued a statement earlier this morning.

DeVos found it important to give back to his community, and between he and Van Andel, no one is more responsible for the renaissance of Grand Rapids.

DeVos was a major supporter of the merger of Butterworth and Blodget hospitals. He and his wife, Helen, made a sizable donation that led to the creation of the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital.

Rich DeVos leaves behind four children, 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His wife Helen died in Oct. 2017.

He will be greatly missed.
