It is no surprise that Michigan is home to a lot of hockey fans.  The Detroit Red Wings have a long history of championships, including 11 Stanley Cups, the University of Michigan has 9 NCAA Championships, and Michigan State University has 3 NCAA Championships.  So, we have some fantastic teams to root for in this state.

Wallethub.com put together a list of the best cities for hockey fans in the country and 8 of the 73 cities listed are in Michigan.  You'd think that Detroit would top the list, but it is only second, behind Boston.  What the heck is up with that!?  Isn't Detroit called "Hockeytown"?

Here are the eight Michigan Cities that made the list and their ranking:

  • Detroit (#2)
  • Ann Arbor (#24)
  • Houghton (#31)
  • Big Rapids (#33)
  • Sault Ste. Marie (#40)
  • East Lansing (#49)
  • Marquette (#53)
  • Kalamazoo (#72)

It's kinda weird that Grand Rapids didn't make the list, seeing as the Griffins have won two Calder Cups in the last 5 years.
