Another Big Loss For Michigan State and Not in Sports!

Michigan State University raised his salary to $2 Million per year along with other benefits, but it wasn't enough and it looks like the University President is moving on anyway, and, for less money.

MSU President Dr. Kevin Guskiewicz is heading to South Carolina to accept a position as President of Clemson University. His salary will only be $1.2 million per year.

Guskiewicz began his leadership of Michigan State University in March, 2024. That is only two years before deciding he needs different surroundings.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

Guskiewicz came to MSU from North Carolina, so did he miss the Carolinas? Don't really know, but SI.com says there was "friction with the MSU Board of Trustees seems to be the thing pushing out Guskiewicz, who was relatively accessible and was mostly popular among the student body."

Boy is this bad timing or what. It seemed that the university had finally found some stability in not only education but athletics as well. We all know that the presidents position at Michigan State has been a revolving door of late.

SI.com says "since Lou Anna K. Simon resigned in January 2018, six different people have been either the acting, interim, or permanent president at the school."

Battling in the education ring and the athletic ring for any college or university in todays world is a tough fight, and if no one really knows "who's on first," then it is a tough nut to crack. Who is making decisions, who should we trust, are we safe talking with someone we're not sure will be there tomorrow, or be under cut by a board of trustees?

All good and worrisome questions for MSU, a much beloved institution. Let's hope they can take a good look inside themselves and under the covers to right the ship.
