Wowzer! Have you seen the price of coffee lately?

All of us coffee lovers are being hit by significant price hikes. Whether you are in a coffee shop for your favorite pour, or you are buying your own beans or ground, it's costing a lot more.

I, like all of us "cup a joe" lovers, are ponying up to the price increase, but it still hurts.

Is it Tariff's? Not exactly.

Since the U.S. isn't a coffee producer, except for Hawaii, we rely on imports. Even though the tariff on Columbian imports was cancelled, just the threat of one rocks the coffee trade and prices jump, CNN reports.

According to experts, that seems to be the real issue here. No matter where the coffee has been coming from, Brazil, Vietnam, Columbia, those coffee growers have been hit hard with severe weather. Crain's Grand Rapids said they have suffered though drought, frost, and even a typhoon.

In addition to all of this, there has been a huge rise in demand for good, quality coffee beans, aka supply and demand, so there you go, big price increases.

So what can one do, just bite the bullet and grin a bear it?

If you are not doing it already, consider buying whole beans instead of already ground coffee. Whole bean coffee can be less expensive. Also, ground coffee will lose it flavor and freshness faster, but beans will remain fresher longer. Plus, grinding the beans just before brewing will make a delicious cup of coffee.
