A Jenison teen who was set to start high school soon was hit by a car Sunday night while riding his bicycle.

WOOD-TV8 reports that 14-year-old Xzavier Gust was riding his bike down the center of the 44th St. shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a Ford Fusion hit him.

At the time of the crash, Xzavier was not wearing a helmet or any other protective gear. He was taken to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. He was pronounced dead Monday afternoon from his injuries.

Xzavier would have been a high school student in Jenison next week.

Authorities said the driver of the Fusion is a 29 year old Wyoming man who was wearing his seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
