A fire at the main lodge at the Boyne Highlands Ski Resort left twelve people injured early Sunday and the ski resort closed, at least temporarily.

The fire broke out in one of the rooms at the Lodge early Sunday morning. Fire crews were called to the scene at 1:30am Sunday and aided in getting several guests out of their rooms to safety. 113 people were staying in the Lodge at the time, according to 7 & 4 news out of Traverse City.

None of the injuries suffered by twelve guests appeared serious, however one smoke inhalation victim was transported to Grand Rapids for further treatment. MLive was reporting that that man was still unable to breathe on his own.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and was considered 'suspicious' according to what Harbor Springs Fire Chief John Cupps told 9 &10 News after battling the blaze well into the afternoon on Sunday.

Alex Childress posted this video of the fire being battled by Northern Michigan fire crews on his Facebook page.

The ski resort will be closed today in the wake of the fire, and there is no date announced yet as to their reopening.

A statement released on the resort's Facebook page thanked the firefighters who fought the blaze, and warned against rumor mongering.

The fire comes at a very bad time for the resort, with the Christmas and winter break holiday — the busiest time of the year for area ski resorts — just two weeks away.

“It’s too early to comment on where we go from here,” Boyne Highlands President and General Manager Mike Chumbler told the Petoskey News. “We’ll have to assess the extent of the damage. Thankfully we have two resorts in Michigan. If we have to move people around for accommodations we can do that. I would think we’d be able to open for skiing in a relatively reasonable time frame it will just be a matter of what we can offer in accommodations.”
