Another great year of ArtPrize in Grand Rapids has concluded. Some of this year's artists and entries will be remembered for years to come, just like we remember Young Kim's "Salt & Earth (2009)" from ArtPrize in 2009.

Young Kim's "Salt & Earth (2009)" was on display at 47 Commerce. The entry used salt and earth to create portraits of people photographed in Grand Rapids with their eyes closed. The portraits were lit under hanging bulbs in a large open area. It was always very quiet and solemn at 47 Commerce.

Young Kim's "Salt & Earth (2009)" won a surprise $5,000 award. It won the Curator's Award from UICA.

Kim returned to ArtPrize in 2010 with "salt & earth (garden for Patricia)" at GRAM. The entry placed 8th in the Public Vote and won $7,000. It was another strong showing from Kim, but his entry in 2009 is the one that is best remembered.
