Ford and General Motors in preparation to resume production.

According to WXYZ, some staffers for Ford and GM reported to work on Monday to begin the process of restarting the production lines since being closed down due trying to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Plants from both companies have been down since the middle of March but massive safety measures are being put in place to insure workers safety on the job when they return.

At both GM and Ford, employees will be getting health screenings before entering the respective plants. Social distancing will also be in place plus safety equipment that will be worn by workers.

GM CEO Mary Barra said, "no one knows when things are going to get back to the new normal. Others refer to it as the new abnormal."

The UAW does not agree with the May 1 reopening and according to the UAW President, Rory Gamble, says its too soon.

Gamble said, "the UAW does not believe the scientific data is conclusive that it is safe to have our members back in the workplace. We have not done enough testing to really understand the threat our members face."

There is no word on which plants across the state of Michigan will open but Ford and GM are both moving a head with their respective plans.
