Opera Grand Rapids Presents Don Giovanni in February
Mozart has written some classic pieces of music, no pun intended. From symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of his death, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart always had a passionate style that made him one of the most famous composers of his time.
His masterpiece opera, Don Giovanni, is widely regarded as one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed. Don Giovanni is just one of many classic operas loosely based on the legend of Don Juan. And, Mozart’s interpretation of the unrepentant
seducer is a playful drama that is at once comic and tragic, and sexually charged.
Friday and Saturday night, February 8th and 9th, Opera Grand Rapids will bring the tale of Don Giovanni to life.
Their production will feature a well-traveled national cast and the music
of the Grand Rapids Symphony under the direction of Maestro Robert Lyall and Director Matthew Lata.
The superb cast features baritone Timothy Mix in the title
role of Don Giovanni.
Donna Anna will be performed by Siân Davies
Tenor Sean Pannikar will sing the role of Don Ottavio.
Abigail Nims will sing the role of the peasant girl Zerlina.
The role of the Commendatore, Donna Anna’s father, will be played by Jeremy Galyon.
This is the seventh most performed opera in North America, with the music of Don Giovanni having been included in the scores of many major films including; It Happened in Brooklyn, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Kind Hearts and Coronets and Parting Glances.
