UICA Hosts Closing Event to Celebrate and Discuss Arts and Accessibility in Grand Rapids

The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) invites the community to take part in a public discussion on Sunday, July 28, about how to sustain arts and access in Grand Rapids for the future and will encourage conversation around the community impact of the inaugural DisArt Festival and centerpiece exhibition Art of the Lived Experiment. The event will include breakfast, a conversation moderated by a panel, and a Q&A to follow.

UICA Brunch, Brews, and a Movie Begins in June

If you are a movie buff, and a food buff, the UICA has just the "ticket" for you.

The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) announced a partnership with Grand Rapids Brewing Company that will give foodies and film lovers something to celebrate. UICA and GRBC are teaming up to offer Brunch, Brews, and a Movie, a new series that incorporates a film school-esque lecture with everyone’s favorite mid-morning meal brunch. The event will take place at both UICA and GRBC on select Sundays throughout the year.

Blodgett Estate, “Brookby” Will Transform Into a Fairy Garden as Fundraiser

The Blodgett Estate, a historical Grand Rapids landmark on the grounds of Aquinas College, will be transformed into a fairy garden during the month of June. The event is “Brookby Enchanted,” the Grand Rapids Symphony Women’s Committee’s annual fundraiser benefitting the education programs of the Grand Rapids Symphony. Guests can visit the estate for a tour of the iconic Broobky House home and grounds featuring fairy houses created by local artists. “Brookby Enchanted” is made possible, in part, through the generosity of the Edith I. Blodgett Legacy Fund of the Brookby Foundation.

Sculptural Pinatas Named Winner of ArtPrize Pitch Night in Minneapolis

ArtPrize Pitch Night opened its third year last night in Minneapolis. The program awards artists from outside of Michigan with $5,000 and a prominent place to display their art at ArtPrize.

A work featuring sculptural piñatas, "Constructing on Deconstructing" by Carolina Borja and Amy Toscani, was named the winner at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
