Andy Rent

Starting out as a weatherman/TV-Radio host for TV8 in the 70's, Andy also played "Captain Woody" on the TV8 afternoon kids show, and probably is the most recognized personality in the West Michigan area having been on radio and TV for the better part of three decades. Andy is originally a "Hoosier" from Muncie, Indiana and always wanted to be in “show biz”. After graduating from Ball State University, Andy stayed in Indiana, working in radio and TV in Richmond, Muncie and Indianapolis. He moved to Grand Rapids to work at WOOD-TV where he met his wife Kathy. Andy is deeply involved in the Grand Rapids and West Michigan community. He has served on the board of directors of the Metropolitan YMCA, and Easter Seals-Michigan. He also assists the Salvation Army, DeGage Ministries, JDRF, Disability Advocates, Hope Network, and various other non-profit organizations. Interests: I love golf, travel, reading, dining out, theater and movies. And, of course my children and grand children. Andy and his wife Kathy have 7 children and 8 grandchildren. They have a busy life. Music: I love all kinds - especially jazz, blues, and classical, rock and pop hits. The best part about my job: The ability to make a difference in the community.

It’s All About The Side Dishes At Thanksgiving And Here Are Some Delicious Ones

I can't wait for Thanksgiving. The dinner for our family is always a bit hectic, but lots of fun. I just bought a turkey oilless-fryer, and I can't wait to use it, so the main course is taken care of, however, the rest of our menu always does seem to be the same each year. Not that it's not good, but I really wanted to look for some new ideas this year, and I got some help.

Kathy Landin of our TownSquare Media staff found some deliciously different recipe's that we may just try. At any rate, I wanted to share them with you.

Excellent Service in Grand Rapids to be Honored This Thursday

It's not often excellence in service is recognized, is it. If we get bad service at a restaurant, or hotel for example, then we certainly talk about it. We complain, leave a bad tip, whatever, but when a server goes over and above board, maybe we thank them, but that's it.

Experience Grand Rapids and the Kent County Lodging Association are doing something about that, and will celebrate the sixth annual Impacting Hospitality Celebration recognizing outstanding service providers in the Grand Rapids/Kent County hospitality industry through WAVE Awards and Grand Rapids Hometown Champions.
