Kim Carson

Hey Kim Carson here! I have lived all over this country but no other place is like Grand Rapids! I love West Michigan and it's the only place I've ever lived that I actually purchased a home. I am originally from Detroit and grew up listening to 93FM WDRQ. That is where I first met my mentor, Rockin' Ron Baptist! Years later he became my "life mate". He passed away six months after I moved to Grand rapids. Still miss him very much. Ron, gave me my first break in radio (at a time when women were not even on the air). I started on the air in Knoxville, Tennessee at the age of 16 (I attended summer school for 2 years so I could graduate a year earlier). My radio career has taken me to Detroit Michigan for 12+ years, Oklahoma City, Greensboro, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina (for two weeks until Hurricane Hugo moved in a took my radio station away), Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Toledo, Ohio. I love what I do because it gives me a platform to help the community in which I live. I love meeting my listeners at remote broadcasts and I enjoy chatting with them when they call me at 616-770-8200. Hope one day I might be able to chat with you and find out what you're all about:-) I am also the author of "Essence Of Life: A Compilation Of Story And Poem"  You can learn a little more about me at Faith Hope And Love Songs. Please join me Middays, 10am-3pm Eastern, 100.5 The River. Listen online too at www.wtrv.com ps Love it if you could join me for my weekend show too! It's Faith Hope and Love Songs and it's an inspirational, positive and uplifting show with artist interviews and positive music. Faith Hope and Love Songs airs Sundays 9-11am Eastern and repeats again 7-9pm Eastern. Listen in and I think you'll like it:-)  Wanna chat?  Here's my email address kim.carson@townsquaremedia.com

Grand Rapids Singer Writes A Special Song For His Sister Who Was Diagnosed With Autism

His name is Chas Burtchett, and I first met him and heard him sing at the Autism Support of Kent County Walkathon a few weeks back at Kuiper College.  I've been hosting the event for the past 5 years or so.  Chas was telling me and some of the others, about his sister who was diagnosed with Autism.

Madonna Slams Lady Gaga With Express Yourself/Born This Way MashUp

So Madonna is kicking off her concert tour in Israel tonight!  Oh if I could be back there seeing that show.  When I visited Tel Aviv in December I saw this place where she is putting on her concert, in the Ramat Gan Stadium.  It is every bit as big and beautiful, maybe more so, than any state of the art stadium we have back here in the states.

Someone caught some video of Madonna rehearsing for the show.  Probably a better and more honest way to say that is someone intentionally leaked this footage (with Madonna's blessings I'm sure) of Madonna rehearsing for tonight's show.

Funicular, now there is a word I have never heard before.  At first I thought it may have been a made up word.  But no, it's for real.  Funicular: is a motorized tram on a track and it just came to the John Ball Zoo.

Think The Potholes Are Bad Now? Study Shows Grand Rapids Roads Getting Worse

Driving down Hall Street and dodging all the potholes gets me to thinking.  I wonder if maybe one day while driving home from work, my car and me might just disappear into one of those big potholes, falling deep into the dark abyss of the earth, only to resurface in China.   They just seem to gobble you up, don't they?   Seriously, at the very least they do an enormous amount of damage to the front end of cars, tires and alignments.

Rockford Construction May Bring More Than 160 Jobs To Grand Rapids

Whenever I see a news story that talks about more jobs coming to Grand Rapids and/or West Michigan it always piques my interest.  It's a good thing, right?  I mean when you think of all the people who have lost jobs in Michigan it can be a bit overwhelming.  Any bit of news about jobs moving here is a good thing.

Right now Rockford Construction is looking to relocate to Grand Rapids, possibly as early as this summer, in addition to creating 160 jobs.

4-Year-Old Girl’s Hairstyle Get’s Her Banned From School Photos

You know, I'm starting to jump on the bandwagon with everybody else here.  I'm starting to think the political correctness and the desire to make all of humanity look, walk, talk, and dress the same way, is getting a little out of control here.  She's a 4-year-old girl!!!

So here's the story

I wouldn't have thought anything like this could have even happened but I was wrong.  When the FBI gets involved you know it's serious.  Why is it that thousands of people might lose internet service in July?  One word, HACKERS!

Grand Rapids Premieres Feature Length Film “Urbanized”, At Wealthy Theatre

I love architecture!  Recently I sold a number of paintings that were done by architect Frank Lloyd Wright's last apprentice on eBay, his name was Robert Green.  I purchased a number of Robert's paintings from his son Matthew.  I think his paintings were so wonderful because there was just something so  different about them.  Maybe being an architect, that happened to be lucky enough to study under one of the most highly acclaimed architects of all time, may have helped Robert to look at things a bit differently.  I imagine that this feature length documentary will examine all of the aspects of building and how it affects our cities, neighborhoods, landscapes and nature itself.

Student Sues GVSU, Needs Guinea Pig For Emotional Support

While I am not a guinea pig lover, well I use to be, but that all changed after my eyes swelled up and my throat closed and I got a terrible case of the itchies and had to be rushed to the emergency room at the age of 12.

That's what happened when I brought home that little innocent guinea pig from McGregor Elementary School for the weekend  Each weekend the students would have an opportunity to bring home a guinea pig, a hamster, a lizard, a frog since no one would be in the school to care for them.
