Kim Carson

Hey Kim Carson here! I have lived all over this country but no other place is like Grand Rapids! I love West Michigan and it's the only place I've ever lived that I actually purchased a home. I am originally from Detroit and grew up listening to 93FM WDRQ. That is where I first met my mentor, Rockin' Ron Baptist! Years later he became my "life mate". He passed away six months after I moved to Grand rapids. Still miss him very much. Ron, gave me my first break in radio (at a time when women were not even on the air). I started on the air in Knoxville, Tennessee at the age of 16 (I attended summer school for 2 years so I could graduate a year earlier). My radio career has taken me to Detroit Michigan for 12+ years, Oklahoma City, Greensboro, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina (for two weeks until Hurricane Hugo moved in a took my radio station away), Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Toledo, Ohio. I love what I do because it gives me a platform to help the community in which I live. I love meeting my listeners at remote broadcasts and I enjoy chatting with them when they call me at 616-770-8200. Hope one day I might be able to chat with you and find out what you're all about:-) I am also the author of "Essence Of Life: A Compilation Of Story And Poem"  You can learn a little more about me at Faith Hope And Love Songs. Please join me Middays, 10am-3pm Eastern, 100.5 The River. Listen online too at www.wtrv.com ps Love it if you could join me for my weekend show too! It's Faith Hope and Love Songs and it's an inspirational, positive and uplifting show with artist interviews and positive music. Faith Hope and Love Songs airs Sundays 9-11am Eastern and repeats again 7-9pm Eastern. Listen in and I think you'll like it:-)  Wanna chat?  Here's my email address kim.carson@townsquaremedia.com

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Here’s What’s Happening Around Town

What does Memorial Day Weekend mean to you?  Over the years it has become an occasion, for many,  as a weekend to remember.  Many people visit the graves of their deceased relatives, whether they had served in the military or not.   Red, white and blue flags wave over the grave stones and flowers sometimes decorate the grave markers.  It has also become a long weekend devoted to bargain shopping, family gatherings, barbecues, fireworks, and trips to the beach. (Grand Haven and the Lakeshore is usually PACKED on Memorial Day weekend, if the weather in nice.)

Yes, Even Pit Bulls Have Compassion For Their Fellow Animal Companions

Not long ago I published a story on The River's website about those two dogs, one hit by a car on a busy street, and the other who loyally sat by its side until help could be summoned.  That one dog put his own life in danger to stay by the side and comfort its companion.

Here's another one of those stories...

N.J Woman Says She Was Fired For Being Too Busty

I saw this story on WZZM13's Take Five and Company.  Wish they would have saved this story for my Wednesday morning segment.

Here we go again!  A New Jersey woman says she was fired from her job after her manager told her to "tape her breasts" down.  She has now filed suit against the company claiming religious and sexual discrimination.

MEAP Exam Test Constantly Changing For Grand Rapids Kids & Teachers

Yeah, I remember these tests.  The pressure seemed to be just too much.  Even if I knew the information the importance of scoring on this test just made me blank out. If you're raising children in Michigan, you are all too familiar with the MEAP test.

This year, the state has raised the passing standards. Come this fall, and there are some lawmakers who want to get rid of the test all together.

One-Year-Old Who Can’t Stop Hugging All The Goats [Video]

I love petting zoos probably as much as the kids do.  It's a wonderful opportunity to let children get up close and personal with farm animals; animals that urban dwelling kids don't normally get to see, let alone touch.

Another video that has already gone viral!  Mom is enjoying her little boy as much as her little boy is enjoying the goats.

Pastor Marvin Winans Beaten And Carjacked In Detroit

Man, I wouldn't want to be on the end of this justice when it is served up!

Detroit Police are saying they don't believe this group of young attackers knew they had targeted a prominent Detroit pastor and gospel recording artist when they beat him and carjacked him Wednesday afternoon.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg Got Married! Was There A Pre-Nup?

My mom told me yesterday,  "That Facebook guy got married." Mark Zuckerberg?, I asked.  My next question was: did they say whether she signed a pre-nup or not?  Mom didn't know the answer to that multi-million dollar question.

Now, I'm not trying to take the romance out of love or anything but when you're Mark Zuckerberg, one of the smartest and richest men on the planet, you better be believing in something more than love and romance when you're getting married.

Go Fly A Kite! At The Great Lakes Kite Festival In Grand Haven

Talked to Josh Depenbrok this morning from grNow and he mentioned the Great Lakes Kite Festival.   It took me back to my days in Detroit.  I couldn't wait for the springtime when the wind would start kicking up and I would head over to the church parking lot where there weren't too many overhead wires and I would run as fast as I could to get my kite in the air.  I would make it dip and soar.  I think kids who even spend a lot of time behind a computer screen or in front of the television flying a virtual kite might even enjoy this.

Biggest Bicycle Rally In Greater Grand Rapids On Friday

Lots of people in the area have been bicycling to work for the last week here in and around Grand Rapids!  I posted about it on The River's website a few weeks ago!  You may have seen a few bikes propped up against an office wall or parked and chained in the front of your office building
