What Do You Think Are the Most Beautiful Places in Michigan?
If we ask ourselves what might be the most beautiful places in Michigan, everyone will have an opinion. It's hard to narrow down because we fortunately live in a very beautiful state pretty much shaped by the great lakes of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Poor us!
Summer, fall, winter or spring, Michigan has it's own beauty with the changing seasons. All of us will see beauty somewhere, and in something. It's all so subjective, so let's try some of my favorite spots for starters.
PICTURED ROCKS NATIONAL LAKESHORE - 40 miles of hilly shoreline on Lake Superior
MACKINAC ISLAND - A favorite of all from the Victorian architecture around the harbor to the wonderfully preserved Fort Mackinac (1782), built by the British during the Revolutionary War.
TRAVERSE CITY - A progressive city with the Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas, laden with more than 40 vineyards.
SLEEPING BEAR DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE - Good Morning America has named Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore the “Most Beautiful Place in America”
KITCH-ITI-KIPI - The largest freshwater spring in Michigan has an Ojibwe Native American name that means “Mirror of Heaven”.
GRAND HAVEN - fine sandy beaches, rolling dunescapes, a lively downtown with historic architecture, and a pair of lighthouses along a picturesque pier with a catwalk.
PORCUPINE MOUNTAINS WILDERNESS STATE PARK - The largest state park in Michigan is 60,000 acres of high rocky outcroppings, swamps, lakes, rivers and waterfalls by the shore of Lake Superior.
HOLLAND, MICHIGAN - With a thriving downtown, picture-perfect gardens, golden sandy beaches, and an atmospheric lighthouse, and the oldest authentic Dutch windmill in the country.
GRAND RAPIDS HERITAGE HILL DISTRICT - Covering a whole square mile, and with more than 1,300 residences, this is one of the largest urban historic districts in the country with a house designed by the great Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908-09.
This is only a smattering of the most beautiful places in Michigan. We are very lucky because we have a bit of everything for everyone! Road Trip!
