This Wednesday is National Walking Day, and the YMCA is celebrating.

The downtown David D. Hunting Y is having a free event  from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

Oh, I know that's early, but for those who come to this casual walking event, they'll receive water battles and other items, while supplies last.

Even if you can't join the Y for this event, get out and walk on Walking Day!

The celebration is all part of the American Hear Association's plea to help your heart and walk! These days, so many adults are spending more time at work than ever before. An unfortunate side effect is that, as a nation, we're becoming more inactive. This is a problem when you consider the fact that physical inactivity doubles the risk of heart disease!  Heart disease is this country's No.1 killer. But by exercising for as little as 30 minutes each day you can reduce your risk. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as brisk walking, every week, but only 15 percent of Americans hit that mark.

Once again, this Wednesday, April 3, is National Walking Day.  And, you can celebrate from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the David D. Hunting YMCA, 475 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, downtown Grand Rapids.
