The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids is about $1,000 short of its $10,000 fundraising goal for Exit Space Project.

Exit Space Project would bring art installations to public places in Grand Rapids.

The project would receive a matching gift of $10,000 from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation if $10,000 is raised by this Saturday at 4 a.m.

This phase of the Exit Space Project will help fund a series of two to three public murals in downtown Grand Rapids.

Another phase of the Exit Space Project is already visible in five storefront windows at the former Rowe Hotel on Monroe Ave. The art in the storefront windows was part of last year's ArtWorks program at UICA. It was directed by artist Steven Rainey.

The money raised through this phase of the Exit Space Project will go to artists, be used for supplies and go towards other costs associated with the project. Erwin Erkfitz, co-founder of the Exit Space Project, explains more in the video below.

Donors can receive gifts for their contribution. A gift of $10 earns a movie ticket. Larger gifts earn t-shirts, posters and more.
