Awww, this new baby is really cute. Congratulations to the parents of Neo, born on this past December 16th, and just introduced to the public this past week at the John Ball Zoo!

You see, Neo is an Eastern Mountain Bongo that was born at the Zoo.

Our news partner, WZZM TV13, reported that a the Bongo is originally from Africa and cannot tolerate Michigan's cooler temperatures. Because of that, zookeepers kept a close eye on Neo to make sure he was relaxed and secure.

Bongos are part of a critically endangered species. There are less than 150 left in a remote region of Kenya, and 300 in captivity.

The zoo is taking part in a repatriation program with other zoos where the Bongo's will be sent back to Africa to take part in the natural population.

Welcome Neo!
