As summer nears and camping season in Michigan kicks into high gear, one Michigan state park is preparing for some big changes.

I know you're thinking -- 'Jojo, it's way too cold to go camping just yet', and you're right. Unless you're me. I love freezing to death slowly in my cheap tent. Even if you hate spring camping, now is the time to make those camping reservations if you're to have any chance at the best state park camp sites in Michigan this summer. Here's my Top Five.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expecting more people to stay at Michigan state parks for the July 4 holiday weekend this year than did in 2014. Weekend occupancy was projected at 92.7 percent for the holiday weekend as of June 30, compared to 88.6 percent at the same time in 2014.

A new study just out last week shows that recreational vehicle vacations cost less than other forms of vacation travel, even when factoring in fuel prices and the cost of RV ownership. The study found savings of 27 percent to 62 percent for a four-person group and 15 percent to 48 percent for two-person group, according to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association.
