It won't be long before the fireplace is replaced with a campfire as temperatures warm and summer arrives in Michigan.

Many are already planning for summer, as reservations at Michigan state campgrounds are open through summer 2014.

The online reservation system for Michigan state parks and harbors is now accepting reservations through mid-September 2014. Campsites and harbor slips both fill up quickly as the weather gets warmer.

The DNR added a new campground reservation system on Nov. 1, 2013. The system features site-specific reservations and photos of each campsite. Reservations are available within a six-month window and many make reservations well in advance.

"Because reservations can be made up to six months out, the window for July and August campsites has been open for several weeks now," Olson added. "We are seeing many sites being reserved, but there is still some availability at many of our guests' favorite campgrounds."

Reservations can be made HERE or by calling 1-800-44-PARKS (1-800-447-2757).

Looking forward to summer in Michigan!
