There are so many great dining options in and around Grand Rapids and there's no better time to enjoy them than during Restaurant Week Grand Rapids.

Restaurant Week Grand Rapids runs through Sunday, August 24. Dozens of area restaurants are celebrating the art of dining out with special earth-to-table menu creations.

Participating restaurants offer three-course meals for $28 or two three-course meals for $28.

My wife and I were excited to kick off our Restaurant Week experience on Thursday night.

We celebrated Restaurant Week at Railside Bar & Grille in Byron Center.

Railside offers two three-course meals for $28.

The first course includes three salad options, the second has four entree choices, and the third course includes a variety of desserts from which you may choose one to share.

My wife chose the Spinach Salad. Baby spinach tossed with candied walnuts, bleu cheese crumbles and drizzled with Litehouse Michigan cherry vinaigrette from Lowell.

I chose the Caesar Salad.

For my entree I chose the Lake Perch. I am the only one who likes fish in my house, so I rarely miss a chance to order fish when we're out to eat.

The Great Lakes perch was pan fried golden brown and served with a wild rice blend drizzled with lemon, caper, and herb aioli.

The dish reminded me of fish sticks at first glance, but the taste was much more sophisticated than that. The fish was good and paired nicely with the lemon-drizzled wild rice blend.

My wife chose the Maple Brined Pork Loin. The Valley View Farms (Allendale) brined pork loin is grilled to order. It was served with redskin chive mashed potatoes and caramelized onion with apple cider reduction.

Our server shared with us that the pork had been selling quickly. I can see why. I tried a couple of bites too. The pork was my favorite of our two entrees.

There were many options for dessert, but only one with multiple layers of chocolate. An easy choice for us, although I was a bit worried when our server set the dish in front of my wife. "Share" and "chocolate" are two words that don't often get used in the same sentence in my house.
