The first question I ask pregnant moms or new parents is "do you have any names picked out yet?" So this article about the change in popularity of baby names really intrigued me.

We all know that favorite baby names have changed a lot in the last several years.  Except, apparently, the name William.  And James.  Check this out from the Yahoo article about change in baby names:

"William" has fallen only one slot, from No. 2 to No. 3, in the list of popular male names. "James" has also managed to stick around, dropping from No. 3 in 1911 to No. 17 in 2011.

Most popular male names for 2011 included Jacob, Mason, William, Jayden, Noah, Michael, Ethan, Alexander, Aiden and others.

Most popular female names for 2011 included Sophia, Isabella, Emma, Olivia, Ava, Emily, Abigail, Madison, Mia, Chloe and others.

You can see the change in rank for YOUR name by clicking this link to the Social Security Administration.  It's actually kind of a cool time-killer.

Admittedly, I'm kind of sad to see the name "Thomas" has gone down significantly over the last 50 years - from #9 in 1962 to #63 in 2012.  *sigh*  Guess that means I'm getting old!
