Warning: A Poisonous Invasive Worm is Invading Michigan
A Killer, poisonous worm is loose in Michigan!
Seriously, there is a very poisonous worm invading Michigan, and the key here is DO NOT TOUCH IT!
Come on, we fish with worms, and worms, earthworms, are good for our soil, but not this one, the hammerhead worm.
Before you get all freaked out, this poisonous worm is certainly not like the ones we have seen in movies such as Tremors.
Tremors has become a cult classic that features very large, terrifying, and grotesque subterranean monsters called Graboids that terrorize a small desert town. By the way, Reba McEntire helps save the day!
However small, these little hammerhead worms are still dangerous because of a very dangerous neurotoxin that they can pass to humans.
Mostly, you might get a rash, but there have been reports of people getting sick after touching a hammerhead worm, according to sister station, 95.3 The Bear, in Alabama.
The website Enviroliteracy.org says this little bugger has invaded many states including Michigan.
The hammerhead worm gets its name because it has a head like a hammerhead shark, and is typically 8 to 15 inches long.
Because it eats earthworms that help keep our soil rich, it needs to be gotten rid of, but that is another problem, Enviroliteracy.org says.
It almost can't be killed because no matter how many pieces you may cut it up into, each piece will just regenerate, and now you have more hammerheads. That's a little scary.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU FIND A HAMMERHEAD WORM?
First of all, don't touch it with your bare hands and wear gloves. Then put it in a sealed container or plastic bag and close it.
Next, according to Enviroliteracy.org, do one of these things:
Salt or Vinegar: Sprinkle table salt or pour grain vinegar directly onto the worm in the container.
Freezing: Seal the bag or container and place it in the freezer for at least 48 hours.
Soapy Water: Submerge the worm in a solution of soapy water.
Crushing: Crush the worm thoroughly.
Citrus Oil/Neem Oil: Applying these directly to the worm.
How are you feeling now? I don't know about you but I'm kind of afraid to start digging in my garden!
