Pistons Win NBA Lottery, Get #1 Pick

In Detroit they called it the 'Fade for Cade', and it worked out perfectly! Unless they figure out a way to screw it up.

The Detroit Pistons were granted the overall number one draft pick in the NBA Lottery on Tuesday night. The annual NBA draft will be July 29. It is expected that the team will take Cade Cunningham, a 6-7 point guard from Oklahoma State with that pick.

The young, talented Pistons showed signs of life during the second half of the season, but then started losing some close games, which led many to speculate they were intentionally trying to get into the Lottery.

And they did, so now it's paid off.

Cunningham will give the Pistons a point guard who can score, something they've been sorely lacking over the past few years.

He averaged over 20 points per game for the OSU Cowboys, and grabbed over sox rebounds per game. CBS Sports says this about the potential top pick:

(he) who can shot-create, play-make, score from all three levels and just generally take over games when the situation requires it, which he showed time and again in his one season in the Big 12.

The Houston Rockets were awarded the number two pick, with Cleveland third, Toronto fourth and Orlando (owned by Grand Rapids' DeVos family) picking fifth.

Needless to say long suffering Pistons fans were ecstatic over the news, tweeting and posting their joy online.

The Detroit Pistons have not been to the playoffs since 2008, and they are currently on a 12 game playoff losing streak on the few occasions they have made it.

They've finished thirteenth in the Eastern Conference the last two seasons.
