Nobody Knows What this Donated Object at a MI Library Is
For over 20 years it's been known as "the springy thing."
Sometime around 1998, an object was donated to White Pine Township Library in Stanton and to this day it's still a mystery. All that's known is that it was used sometime in the 1880s. A board member of the library told the Sturgis Journal that they took it to the "Antiques Roadshow" a couple years ago and they too were dumbfounded.
You can see images of the weird object here.
While some have guessed it was part of an old bed spring, the first thing that came to my mind was a giant pop socket -- how millennial of me.
If you want to get in on the fun the library is holding a contest for anyone who comes up with the best answer... doesn't even have to be the right one. The winner will be chosen on Feb. 24 and will receive a gift certificate to White Pine Restaurant. You can call the library at (269) 483-7409.
