Since the pandemic it's been like a blast from the past with drive-in's gaining popularity once again. However, it's had a very negative impact on actual movie theaters, especially local ones.

Harbor Cinema on Henry St. in Muskegon has revealed that they will remain closed for good. They shared the unfortunate news on their Facebook page.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we are staying closed permanently. We had hoped to be open in some capacity by the end of June and yet there is still no date set for theaters to be reopened in the lower peninsula.

They say that even after holding a few fundraisers they still don't have enough to get by, especially with not knowing when theaters can reopen.

...we had hoped that congress would have passed a new small business funding bill before they left for recess.

The theater had plans on reopening on June 26 and then again in July but due to the continuous updates on executive orders, that never happened.

They say they are working on refunding guests who purchased a yearly movie club pass, but it might take some time. They will be posting updates on their Facebook.

Harbor Cinema has been in Norton Shores for the last seven years and it's sad to see a local business fall victim to something they had no control over. In a Facebook comment, the cinema admits that after spending $20,000 in rent in the last six months [while being closed] there is "no hope in sight."
