More Than 860K Lose Power In Lower Michigan With Worst Outage Since 1991
Yesterday Lower Michigan experienced a wind storm that had gusts which reached up to 65 mph. The high winds were a nightmare for commuters across the region with downed trees, downed power lines, and debris in the roads.
In Metro Detroit, over 600,000 DTE Energy customers reported power outages, with many people still left in the dark. The outage in Metro Detroit is the 2nd worst outage the company has encountered since it was founded in 1903. The worst outage was experienced in 1991 when 680,000 DTE Energy customers lost power after a similar windstorm.
Hopefully your lights stayed on during the storm, but if they didn't, one West Side business might be able to help you with your power related needs. The Geek Group National Science Institute is opening its doors to people without power.
