Clinging to a 3-1 lead with two runners on and nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Unionville Sebewaing needed some great defense to win the Division 4 state softball title. And they got it.

A stunning triple play by Unionville-Sebewaing's high school softball team to kill a Kalamazoo Christian rally and win a state title led the ESPN SportsCenter highlights on Saturday evening.

With runners on first and second with nobody out, a K-Christian batter hit a sizzling liner that was snared by Unionville shortstop Rylee Zimmer, who alertly stepped on second to get a second out as the base runner was running on the contact. Zimmer than tossed it over to first baseman Delaney Pavlichek to beat the other runner scrambling back to first.

The three outs on one play is a rare enough stunt in softball, but that it came in the bottom of the seventh and thus clinched a state title for the Patriots made it even more heroic.

The game was played Saturday at Michigan State University.

Zimmer told reporters following the game that it was just instinct. There was no time to think.
