It all began in 1869 when a group of Grand Rapids women organized a history class and it grew from there. So much so that, what had become the Ladies Literary Association, ran out of space and decided to build their own building. That original building is still standing we know as The Lit, and it is quite the place.

I know it well as my daughter, Molly, had her wedding and reception there four years ago. What a wonderful time we all had, family and friends. It really was a magical place.

Now, The Lit is sort of returning to yesteryear, it's roots.

TV8 reported that Penny Loafer, an organization owned by Penny Hock that is working to get its nonprofit 501-C3 status, has taken over operating the building.
