The stormy weather was a challenge, but not a deal-breaker for a West Michigan golfer trying to play 36 consecutive hours for charity, Mel Trotter Ministries.

This is the fourth year PGA pro Bultema has teed-off non-stop for Mel Trotter Ministries.  He wrapped up his golf marathon Wednesday night at the Railside Golf Club in Byron Center.

Bultema uses an illuminated ball to keep playing in the dark, but storms on Tuesday and Wednesday did lead to interruptions.

"We've had a lot of weather," says Bultema. "None like we have ever had. It seems like we are in, we are out, we are in, we are out.

Bultema says he was forced to seek shelter around 6 p.m. Tuesday to escape lightning. "You could see it all.  I'm crazy, but I'm not that crazy."

Chuck LaTour and I were among the local celebrities recruited to play with Bultema to help raise money for Mel Trotter.  We had a ball, literally.  Jim is a wonderful person, and a great golfer.  18 holes went by in about an hour and 45 minutes.  WOW!

All proceeds from the golf marathon will go toward housing for residents in Mel Trotter recovery programs, and emergency shelter for homeless people.

Way to go, Jim!
