UPDATE 3/25: After a body was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound on U.S. 131 late Friday, the victim has been identified as a 25-year-old female from Grand Rapids. 

According to the family, the victim's name is Ruby Garcia, Fox 17 reports. 

Michigan State Police shared on Sunday, March 24, that detectives have a person of interest in custody. 

The investigation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY 3/23: Southbound 131 near Leonard St. was closed for several hours Friday night into Saturday after a body was discovered on the highway.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:38p.m. on Friday, March 22.

They found a deceased female with apparent gunshot wounds.

This is an active investigation and anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of U.S. 131 and Leonard around the time of the incident is asked to contact Michigan State Police Grand Rapids Post at 616-866-441 or Kent County Central Dispatch.

As of 8a.m. Saturday, the highway has reopened.
