New Restaurant Alert: Changes at Grand Rapids Downtown Market

First opening in 2013 at 435 Ionia Ave SW, the Downtown Market is home to more than 18 artisan food merchants and restaurants. There's a commercial kitchen for start-ups and a whole bunch of cool events too! I've loved going to the vintage and handmade markets and the Christmas market, Christlkind Markt, which returns this weekend!

A few months ago we told you about some exciting changes ahead for one of the markets' vendors.

Thai eatery, Rák Thai, has been operating at the Downtown Market for the past decade. Well, they've expanded and relocated with a new concept!

RÁK: Modern Thai & Cocktails is now open the northwest corner of the market on the first floor, in the former home of Social Kitchen & Bar. I'm excited to have another sit-down dining option at the market!

Rák Thai owners owners Blon and Christine Hang guests can still get their favorite dishes plus newly-imagined appetizers and entrées in fun and inviting sit-down atmosphere.

The menu includes rice dishes, noodle bowls, crab cheese nachos, fresh rolls, and more. According to a Nov. 9 Facebook post, it sounds like cocktails will be available soon!

In their former space, the Hangs have opened a new bakery and Boba tea shop, Chewie Bitez.

You'll find signature stuffed cookies and brownies with decadent fillings in flavors like chocolate chip, s'mores, and matcha.

In addition to artisan Boba teas, Chewie Bitez serves lemonades, lattes, cold brews, and other unique beverages.

There's also hot food made to order like chicken fingers, seasoned fries, cheese curds, and churro sticks. Plus, you'll find a retail section with specialty snacks, instant noodles, and more
