Even though it was 70 degrees in West Michigan mere days ago, local weather forecasts gave us a heads-up we were in for a wintry weekend.

Initially it was thought West Michigan would get a dusting of snow Nov. 12 through 13, 2022...

How Much Snow will West Michigan Get This Weekend?

The National Weather Service has updated this weekend's forecast, and it sounds like more snow is headed our way. Some parts of West Michigan could see five to seven inches of snow by midday Sunday.

NWS is calling it "the first significant snowfall of the season":

The coldest air of the season so far, will continue to caused mixed rain and snow showers into this afternoon. By evening will be cold enough for all the precipitation to be snow. The snow will be heavy at times near US-31 overnight. Some areas could see 5" to 7" of snow by midday Sunday. Inland of US-131 expect only snow flurries.

By Saturday afternoon, mixed rain and snow showers are expected to become widespread throughout West Michigan.

By tonight, the precipitation will become all snow and significant accumulations are expected near US-31 from late afternoon into mid-morning Sunday.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Parts of West Michigan

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory counties along the Lakeshore, including Mason, Lake, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo Counties.

The advisory is in effect 4p.m. Saturday through 1p.m. Sunday.

Total snow accumulations of 2 two 5 inches are expected west of US-131 by midday Sunday, with locally higher amounts possible.

NWS says to plan on slippery road conditions and to slow down and use caution when driving.
