Fox 17 reports that Van Buren County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to 55th Street north of Territorial Road in Hamilton Township to follow up on reports of a mini horse that had been shot and killed.

Hamilton Township lies between Lawrence and Decatur.

Police say a witness recalls hearing two gunshots on Wednesday, January 4 at approximately 7:30 p.m. The horse was found dead the next morning, January 5.

It is believed someone likely shot the horse from the road and then took off.

Was it a random shooting? What kind of motive would someone have for shooting a miniature horse?

Hopefully the person who did this is found and punished.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office at 269-657-2006. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Silent Observer by calling 269-343-2100.

This is a developing story.
