I'm not saying it's ever a good idea to attempt to rob an ATM... but it's REALLY not a good idea when that ATM is inside a jail.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, Feb. 14 around 6:22a.m. a 26-year-old Battle Creek man entered the lobby of the Calhoun County Jail. He was wielding a knife and started pounding on the entry door to the interior of the jail.

Corrections deputies saw he was holding a knife and called for additional law enforcement through Calhoun County Dispatch.

The man began to break into the ATM located in the lobby area.

From the police statement, it's unclear if the man was trying to intimidate officers with the knife, or attempting to use it to break into the ATM.

Deputies then electronically locked the exterior door, and the man was unable to escape.

Battle Creek Police Department officers made contact with the individual from the exterior of the building, and he eventually surrendered and was escorted into the jail - which of course, was RIGHT THERE.
