
Michigan City’s Charming Main Street Competing for Best in U.S.
Once abandoned as people flocked to the suburbs, main streets are making a comeback. One main street in Michigan is getting national attention as it competes to be the best in the country.

USA Today and 10Best is on the hunt for the best main streets in the country in a new poll. A panel of experts chose 20 places with charming main streets that are "living history, have a vibrant culture, and serve as the hearts of their communities." Now it's up to a public vote to determine the top ten.
The one Michigan city in the running took the top spot last year... we can vote to make it happen again!
The Michigan main street once again vying to be the best in the nation is Howell.
Howell, Mich., is the largest city and county seat of Livingston County. Platted in 1835 by a group of settlers from Detroit, it was later incorporated in 1863.

Howell offers many events and festivals throughout the year, including multiple along its iconic main street like the Howell Melon Festival and the Sunday Farmer's Market.

In the historic downtown you'll find boutiques, salons, restaurants, coffee shops, a historic opera house, and more.

Grand River Avenue, the main street in Howell, is home to numerous historic buildings that now house a variety of unique shops and local eateries. This street is where you'll find the Howell Opera House, as well as the popular 2FOG's Pub.
