It's cold! Winter is hitting us pretty hard, right now, so, time to crank up the heat. Which is something I was thinking about just yesterday. How blessed we are to have a warm, comfortable place to go in weather like this. But what bothers me is that not all of us are as blessed. Without a warm home to go, what do you do?

The homeless, disenfranchised of Grand Rapids, need safety and care, as well. And, in Grand Rapids, there are many agencies that are here to help. One of those "angel helpers," is Degage Ministires. Degage realizes that the need is increasing and with our tough winter weather, so they're jumping in to help.

Beginning yesterday, Wednesday, January 4, Degage Ministries began keeping its day center open longer, and will do so through March to help provide relief to those experiencing homelessness during these cold winter months. The ministry’s day center will now be open from 7am to 11:30am and then again from 2pm to 7pm Monday through Saturday and 7am-1:30pm and 4-7:30pm on Sundays. What a blessing.  Other Grand Rapids agencies are able to provide night-time shelter.

At Degage, it's not just a place to shelter. They actively engage their patrons, with activities such as movies, bingo and concerts that are coordinated by staff and volunteers.

Speaking of volunteers, how about helping out. Anyone wishing to volunteer at the day center may contact Degage’s volunteer coordinator Holly Kammel at holly@degageministries.org.
