The new P. Douglas Kindschi Hall of Science on Grand Valley State University's Allendale campus is finishing up construction and set to open for classes on August 31.

GVSU's P. Douglas Kindschi Hall of Science is a 151,000-square-foot facility. It is being designed to help meet the demand for the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and health professions fields.

The building will have nine classrooms, 15 teaching laboratories, 14 faculty and student research laboratories, study spaces, offices and a greenhouse.

Construction on the $55 million dollar facility began in July 2013. Grand Valley received $30 million from the state and bonded the remaining $25 million.

The building is named after longtime faculty member Doug Kindschi.
