Griffins Name New Head Coach
Congratulation to Ben Simon, who was just named the new head coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins! Simon becomes the 11th head coach in the teams history.
Our news partner, WZZM, reports that the last three years for the Grand Rapids Griffins have been very successful, making the playoffs in each of those years, and, winning the Calder Cup in 2016 for the second championship in their history. And, it's all been under the coaching of Todd Nelson. But, with that success for Nelson, the NHL comes calling, and he is moving on to the Dallas Stars as an assistant coach.
That doesn't mean the new head coach is coming into a new environment. Simon, 39, has been an assistant coach for the team for the last three seasons and played for the Griffins during the 2006-07 season.
