In the wake of a man being shot June 26th at Joe Taylor Memorial Park , the City of Grand Rapids is adding park ambassadors four different city parks and adding a few more programs, according to WOODTV.

The four parks: Joe Taylor, Martin Luther King, Garfield, and Highland are going to get two park ambassadors each, who will be on park grounds from 3 pm to 9pm seven days a week.  They’ll be on the job from mid-July through September, and the city is looking to fill these positions; you only have to be 18 years old to apply. What the job entails from the posting,

  • Assist park users with relevant information and directions

  • Connect park users to existing or upcoming programs and/or events

  • Remove trash as needed

  • Engage with youth while they are active in the park

  • Report maintenance/repair needed in the park and park facilities

The other plans for safety include more recreational opportunities, the city told WOODTV.  Part of that initiative is adding a youth program to Joe Tyler Park, similar to the one offered at Martin Luther King Park.

There’s a third program planned, but the city didn’t divulge that info quite yet, according to WOODTV.
