According to recent reports, one of the iconic dresses worn by Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz has recently sold at auction for $1.56 million.

As Reuters reports, "The blue and white gingham dress, one of 10 thought to have been made for [Judy] Garland in her role as Dorothy in the movie, was among the top items in the Bonham’s and Turner Classic Movies Hollywood memorabilia auction.

Described as bearing sweat stains around the neck but in good condition, it had been expected to sell between $800,000 and $1.2 million."

It appears that even the high end of that appraisal was $300,000 lower than what the dress sold for: $1.56 million.

The buyer remains unnamed, but hopefully this dress serves as someone's new favorite Christmas present.
