Everyone knows about Dyngus Day, right?
Well, maybe not unless you are Polish!

Dyngus Day, pronounced "Dingus", is a Polish tradition that is this coming Monday, April 21, the day after Easter.
Originally, Dyngus Day marked the end of Lent and was sort of a relief from the Lenten restrictions, but it has evolved into a big party. Leave it to the Polish to know how to really throw a great party, and do they ever!
In the old days, according to National Today.com, on Easter Monday, the males would shower water on the girls and tap them with pussy willows. The females would do the same to the boys on Tuesday. Nowadays, at current Dyngus Day celebrations, both men and women swap water and pussy willow equally.
Of course this coming Monday there may not be water and pussy willows, but for sure there will be lots of food, kielbasa, pierogi's kapusta, beer and drinks, and polka music at the halls, bars and restaurants around the country.
However, here in Grand Rapids, the big celebration is waiting until next weekend, April 25, 26, and 27. Now that's a serious celebration party!
WOOD TV Eight West reported these celebrations!
St. Stanislaus Little Hall at 823 Michigan, NE will have a big celebration on Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26, with lots of live music, food, and cold drinks.
The American Legion Post 459, 658 Michigan, NE will have great food, Polish dogs, kapusta, mizeria, and Polish egg rolls on Saturday until 6 p.m.
The Kosciuszko Polish Hall, 935 Park St. SW, will party hearty on both Friday and Saturday with a polka band, great Polish food, and drink specials. The Kosciuszko Hall may be the oldest or one of the oldest halls in Grand Rapids since it was established in the early 20th century.
Happy Dyngus Day, all!
