Detroit Lions’ fans have been speculating all season that this could be the final year for head coach Matt Patricia, and they were correct.

The Lions announced Saturday afternoon that they have fired both Coach Patricia and the man who brought him into the organization - General Manager Bob Quinn.

The injury-riddled Lions have started the 2020 season 4-7. Patricia's overall record with the organization is 13-29-1 since coming to Detroit from the New England Patriots.

ESPN reports that the Lions' interim coach will be offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Patricia took over the reins of the Lions from former coach Jim Caldwell who had taken the team to back-to-back 9-7 seasons. The team hasn't had a winning season with Patricia at the helm.

The Lions are known for many things, including only making one appearance in the playoffs in the past 63 years and being one of only four teams in the league who have never made a Super Bowl appearance.

Bob Quinn joined the Lions in 2016 and brought Patricia on board two years later. Quinn had previously spent sixteen years with the New England Patriots in various positions within the organization.

Prior to the announcement of the teams decision, several outlets speculated that the move was coming and Sports Illustrated even broke down eight coaches that could potentially replace him including a few college head coaches and coordinators from throughout the NFL.

The Lions next game will be played on Sunday, December 6 against the Chicago Bears (who beat the Lions 27-23 in the first game of the season.)
