This is very surprising, according to an article on WebMD.com, because the bacteria that causes the disease was so uncommon during the height of the COVID pandemic that one medical journal ran an article suggesting that it may be gone forever.

Not so, doctors are finding. WILX in Lansing, says walking pneumonia can occur at any age, but is most common among children ages 5–17 years and young adults, the CDC reports. However, yes, now doctors are seeing the biggest rise among very young children.

Symptoms to watch for include:

Fever
Headache
Slowly worsening cough
Fatigue

Yes, younger children may have different symptoms that might include diarrhea, wheezing, or vomiting.

So, the question for parents is should they worry and get treatment and use antibiotics right away?

Doctors are saying it usually goes away by itself. Also, walking pneumonia is found to be mostly resistant to antibiotics. And, unfortunately, there really is not a vaccine to protect against it. However, if you, or your children are at a higher risk, for instance with asthma or other issues, then get to your doctor, emergency centers or the hospital right away.
