Thursday Cascade Township Firefighters were dispatched to help a deer that fell through the ice on Thornapple River.

The Cascade Charter Township posted on their Facebook page about the rescue operation.

After doing some safety recon, the firefighters rigged up a system which was able to rescue the deer who had a fawn waiting for her on the bank.  The whole thing only took around 30 minutes.

Chief Adam Magers said the rescue provided valuable training for the department.

They saved a deer and rolled it into a training exercise, I love that. Makes it harder for trolls to complain they saved a deer.
